In all the animation backgrounds I browsed, the ones that caught my eye the most effectively were the ones that made use of a distinct color scheme or limited color palette. This technique appears to keep the background from becoming too “busy”, yet still maintains a visual vibrancy and “pop”. In order to make an effective background, it appears that the artist must balance several factors. For one, the colors need to look distinct and avoid that “muddy” or look that all the colors simply congeal together, possibly making it difficult to see the animated character in the foreground. On the other hand, you want the background to be visual appealing as well. This example from Princess and the Frog is a wonderful background. Not only is it beautifully executed, but the color scheme is limited and retains a definite visual pop.
An example of a more simple yet effective background is this backdrop from Pink Panther. It has very few colors, yet is visually stimulating.
My doctor moved to a new building recently, so when I went to my doctor’s appointment, it was a brand new environment for me. It was late morning, so it was still nice and crisp out. One of the first things I noticed was how brand spanking new the building was, and how clean and fresh everything looked. There weren’t that many people there, but all the employees were super nice and easy going, which is always a plus. The place was very well light, but it was a pleasant sensations since the majority of it was natural light spilling in through the generous amount of large windows in the waiting room. The waiting room had a purple and grey color scheme going on with random splashes of red that took the form of table decor. There were several framed pictures adorning the walls of vineyards and grapevines, which makes sense because the building was pretty stinking close to the Roxy Ann vineyards in Medford. There waiting room had no particular odor or smell to it, but that is definitely better than there being a nasty or noxious smell. The whole environment was very calming and peaceful, which is definitely a good thing for a doctor’s office to possess. It was pretty quiet in the waiting room, but not an unsettling, creepy quiet. The general layout of the waiting room gave it an airy and spacious feel, which is much better than those cramped rooms with the fluorescent lights that the old building had.
